Pastor Byron McIlwain, Sr. was born September 22, 1955. He is the fourth of five children born to the late Reverend Roosevelt McIlwain and Mrs. Betty Morrison McIlwain.

He is a graduate of North Mecklenburg High School of Huntersville, North Carolina.  After graduation he worked two years in retail before joining the United States Air Force in 1975.

He returned to Charlotte, NC September of 1979 where he continued working in the retail business serving in several leadership positions.  He continued his education at CPCC in Auto Mechanics / Refrigeration and Air Condition.  He has taken courses in Biblical Studies at More Than Conquerors College, New Life Theological Seminary and currently is enrolled at Grace Providence Christian College, Mt. Holly, NC.

He has been licensed in the following areas:

• 1987 -  in Life Accident and Health

• 1987 licensed with the National Association of Securities Deal with 6, 63 and 26 series licenses.

This began his entrepreneur journey as McIlwain Financial Network later changed to McIlwain Financial Services which he presently is still a part of.

Pastor McIlwain was ordained under Pastor McCullough’s leadership in January of 2011.  He served at New Waves of Joy until February of 2013, at which time God called him back to his home church, Macedonia Baptist Church, as Interim Pastor.

Sunday, September 29, 2013 he was elected by the church family but called by God as Pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church, not by chance but by God’s choosing - the same church where he grew to know God as a young man.

Pastor McIlwain is married to Angela Reid McIlwain and has been for 32 glorious years.  They are the proud parents of 4 children:  Melissa McIlwain Amos, Michelle McIlwain, Byron McIlwain, Jr., and Bryan Keith McIlwain.  God has also blessed them with 5 grandchildren (Elijah, Isaiah, Daisha, Derrick, Jr. and Miles) and 1 awesome son-in-law (Derrick Amos, Sr.)

His most favorite passage of scripture comes from Proverbs 3:5-6.

“Trust in the Lord with all thine heart;

and lean not unto thine own understanding.

In all thy ways acknowledge Him,

and He shall direct thy paths.”
